Ten area players have been selected to play in the 2014 North Carolina Coaches Association East-West high school all-star boys’ soccer game in Greensboro. The game is scheduled for July 22 at the UNC Greensboro Soccer Stadium.

The East team will be coached by Millbrook’s Matt Edwards.

Michael Clemmons and Ryan Turner, both of N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A runner-up Sanderson, were named to the squad.

Zachary Compton, who scored 25 goals, will represent Green Hope, which reached the 4A semifinals.

Other area players are Dean Rutherford of Fuquay-Varina, Robert Smith of Apex, Chris Zappia of Leesville Road, James Dressman of Durham Jordan, Salvador Hernandez of Millbrook, John McNulty of Holly Springs and Chase Rhode of Cardinal Gibbons.

The girls’ team will be announced this spring.

The NCCA presents all-star games in boys’ and girls’ soccer, boys’ and girls’ basketball and baseball in conjunction with its annual convention in July. The NCCA event is the second-largest high school coaching clinic in the country.
