American Crossroads has ponied up $1.1 million for a four-week broadcast and cable TV commercial campaign supporting House Speaker Thom Tillis’ run for U.S. Senate.

The ad highlights Tillis’ support for tax cuts, voter ID legislation and opposition to the federal Affordable Care Act, and juxtaposes the Republican state legislator with shots of President Obama and Sen. Kay Hagan together.

“Thom Tillis … the conservative guts to replace Obamacare with honest health-care reforms. … North Carolina values for a change,” the ad says.

The ad, announced Tuesday, will run in the Raleigh and Charlotte markets. American Crossroads is a Super PAC backed by Karl Rove, former adviser to President George W. Bush.

Sadie Weiner, Hagan’s spokeswoman, had this to say: "It's pretty unbelievable for Karl Rove to spend over a million dollars to praise Thom Tillis' 'values,' which as we saw last year include giving a tax cut to the wealthy while 80 percent of North Carolina families pay more, refusing to raise teacher pay and cutting almost $500 million from public education."
