N.C. State sophomore heavyweight Nick Gwiazdowski, who captured the conferences first individual national wrestling championship since 2009, was named the ACC Wrestler of the Year on Tuesday.
Virginia Tech freshman Joey Dance, who finished 4th nationally at 125 pounds, was named the ACC Freshman Wrestler of the Year and Virginia Tech head coach Kevin Dresser, who led the Hokies to their second straight ACC Wrestling Championship, was honored as the ACCs Wrestling Coach of the Year.
All three honors were awarded by a vote of the leagues seven head coaches.
Gwiazdowski, who finished the year with a 42-2 record, won the ACC heavyweight title and then plowed through the NCAA field, winning five straight matches and defeating the No. 1 seed in the tournament, Minnesotas Tony Nelson, to win the title. He became the first ACC wrestler to win a national championship since the Wolfpacks Darrion Caldwell in 2009.
Duke: Freshman Yu Liu has been named ACC Co-Womens Golfer of the Month following their strong play in a pair of March tournaments.
In two tournaments, Liu carded her first collegiate victory and a third-place finish against impressive fields while notching a 71.83 stroke average.
Liu shares the award with Miami freshmen Daniela Darquea.
Track and field
N.C. State: Sophomore Alexis Perry earned ACC Womens Track and Field Performer of the Week honors while Wolfpack senior Andrew Colley was named the ACC Mens Track and Field Co-Performer of the Week.
A native of Durham, Perry posted marks that rank among the nations top 15 in the long jump and 100m hurdles during last weekends Raleigh Relays.
Colley, running in his final Raleigh Relays, set a personal best in the men's 1,500 meters with a time of 3:44.21, making up three spots on the final lap to jump from fourth place to cross the finish line in first place.
Georgia Tech junior Broderick Snoddy was named as Co-Performer of the Week along with Colley.
Saint Augustines: The Falcons are first in the mens rankings and second in the womens rankings in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Division II Outdoor National Team Computer Rankings.
St. Augs is ahead of second-place Texas A&M-Kingsville and third-place Adams State University in the mens rankings. Johnson C. Smith is atop the womens rankings followed by St. Augs in second and Angelo State University in third.
