The story behind this butcher block is as wonderful as the piece itself. A dozen years ago my brother and I were mulling around our parents’ barn in New Brunswick, Canada. For the first time I noticed the step into the feed room was this beautiful, centuries-old chunk of wood. I knew right then it would be an amazing table top. “If only I could find some legs,” I said to my brother. Not five minutes later we located four old, oak table legs, casters and all! I trucked the lot 1,000 miles back to North Carolina, where the late Don Marchese of Holly Springs assembled it all into this most treasured family heirloom.
