Zachary Cokas, 14, a ninth-grader at Wakefield High School, won second place statewide in his division for his entry in the 2013 N.C. School Bus Safety Poster Contest.

This year’s theme was “At My Stop – You Stop,” meant to reinforce the importance of coming to a full stop behind or in front of a school bus while it is stopped to let students off or on.

Zachary’s entry incorporated a distracted driver who is looking at a smartphone, where half of the contest’s theme is displayed. The other half of the theme is being spoken by the bus itself. The poster was judged by participants from around the state who attended the N. C. Pupil Transportation Association Conference in Sunset Beach.
