DURHAM — The highest ranking officer in the U.S. Army will visit Duke University on Friday.
Raymond Odierno, a four-star general and the Army Chief of Staff, will talk about national security and military affairs on Friday at the universitys Sanford School of Public Policy.
The talk, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. in Sanford 04, is free and open to the public, with parking available at the Bryan Center parking deck.
Odierno will have a conversation with Peter Feaver, a professor of political science and public policy. Their topics will include near-term challenges and the lessons for the military from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Odierno was the ground commander for the troop surge in Iraq, among other service, and now has to help the Army recover from years of conflict and adjust to a changing world, Feaver said in a written release.
Odierno is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and holds masters degrees from N.C. State University and the Naval War College, and he has served at Fort Bragg. He became Army Chief of Staff in 2011.
