RALEIGH — A woman was killed in a three-vehicle collision on Interstate 40 on Sunday night, according to Raleigh police.
Cassandra Jean Martin, 23, was a passenger in a car that ran into a disabled car in the roadway, police said in a written statement.
The incident began when a tractor-trailer truck driven by William Jerome Clyburn, 60, attempted to get onto eastbound I-40 from Hammond Road, according to police. The truck collided with a car driven by Terry Lane Thompson, 56, leaving the car disabled in the second lane from the median, according to police.
A second car, driven by Richmon Taron Hairston, 24, then ran into the rear of Thompsons car, according to police. Martin was declared dead at the scene, according to police.
Hairston and Thompson were taken to WakeMed. Neither man sustained life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Police continue to investigate the accident and have not filed any charges.
