RALEIGH — Wake Tech police charged a 21-year-old student with having a weapon on educational property after a tip led to their discovering a 9 mm pistol in the glove box of his car in a parking lot.
John David Hamilton of 5902 Wolf Glen Court in Raleigh was arrested about noon Tuesday, a police report said.
An arrest warrant said police found a Glock 19 semiautomatic gun after what the report said was an anonymous tip that a student had a gun in a car.
Hamilton was cooperative when police located him in Ready Hall, the report said.
The report did not disclose whether police found the gun loaded.
Hamilton’s bail was set at $2,000, and he was being held in the Wake County Detention Center for a Wednesday court appearance.
State law makes it a felony for a student or school employee to have any kind of firearm on any educational campus or at curricular or extracurricular events sponsored by a school.
It is a misdemeanor if the person is not a student or worker, however.
