Duke diver McCrory named ACC swimming and diving scholar-athlete of the year

— Duke senior Nick McCrory has been selected the ACC Men’s Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced Wednesday by Commissioner John Swofford.

McCrory claimed his fourth NCAA title in platform diving at last month’s NCAA Championship, engineering a thrilling comeback in the event final to become the first athlete to win four national championships in that discipline. He also earned a third-place finish in the one-meter springboard diving competition at the NCAA meet in Austin, Texas. McCrory concluded his collegiate career an 11-time All-American with a record 10 gold medals in ACC Championship competition.

Shaw 7, Chowan 2: The Bears handed Chowan its first loss in CIAA play this season. Chowan moves to 14-8 on the season with the loss and 7-1 in the league, while the Bears improve to 10-4 and 7-1 CIAA competition.


Meredith 1-7, Guilford 0-6: The Meredith softball team capped off the regular season with a two-win series over the Guilford Quakers. Amanda Beirne earned her 52nd career win with a 1-0 victory in Game 1, and rookie pitcher Taylor Lynn Moore claimed her first win with a 7-6 finish in Game 2.

St. Augustine’s 6-3, Winston-Salem State 3-6: Cierra Neal went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to help Saint Augustine’s defeat Winston-Salem State for the first time in more than 10 years in a CIAA softball doubleheader at Buffaloe Road Park.
