Students from Durant Road Musical Theatre in Raleigh received national recognition at the 2014 Junior Theater Festival at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta.

The Junior Theater Festival is the world’s largest festival celebrating young people and the power of musical theater.

The 30 students, ages 9 to 17, presented selections from musical “Xanadu JR.”

Durant Road members Dana Grossman and Jayden McGrael, both Enloe High students in Raleigh, received a Freddie G award for Outstanding Student Direction and/or Choreography.

Savannah Pardue, who attends Wakefield High in Raleigh, made it to the final callback to participate in instructional choreography videos for soon-to-be released Broadway Junior musicals.

Alex Fernandez, who attends Enloe High, and Mary Stanford Austin, who attends Riverwood Elementary in Clayton, were named to the Junior Theater Festival All-Stars.

Durant Road Musical Theatre plans to offer the full production of “Xanadu JR” at its summer camp workshop this summer.
