Garner police claim man shoplifted merchandise including 34 watches

— When police arrested a man Friday night at a Kohl's store on Shenstone Boulevard, they said, he had shoplifted 34 men's watches and seven pieces of clothing.

They also charged Kevin Remark Canion, 49, of 5530 Hedrick Drive in Fayetteville with stealing headphones from the store on March 13 and March 23, and they filed charges on behalf of Fuquay-Varina police that he stole audio-equipment there on March 14.

In an arrest warrant charging felony larceny, police said the watches and clothing were worth $1,419.

Warrants for the other charges valued the merchandise at about $1,200.

Monday, Canion was being held in lieu of $80,000 bail for a first court appearance on the larceny charges.

Canion was released in May 2013 after serving 12 years in prison for armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury in Alamance County.

He also has served sentences for felony convictions in Durham, Orange and Wake counties and been given suspended sentences for misdemeanor convictions, state prison records show.
