Cibulkova wins Kuala Lumpur opener

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia ( - Top seed Dominika Cibulkova was an easy first-round winner Wednesday at the Malaysian Open tennis event.

The diminutive Australian Open runner-up blew past Turkish qualifier Pemra Ozgen 6-1, 6-3 in 61 minutes at Bukit Kiara Equestrian and Country Resort.

The Slovakian Cibulkova's second-round opponent on Thursday will be Taipei's Su-Wei Hsieh, the 2012 Kuala Lumpur champion.

Meanwhile, fourth-seeded Austrian Patricia Mayr-Achleitner got past Montenegro's Danka Kovinic 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 to reach the quarterfinals.

In some other second-round action on Day 3, sixth-seeded Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan dropped Italian qualifier Giulia Gatto-Monticone 6-1, 6-4 and Poland's Magda Linette drubbed Ukrainian qualifier Lyudmyla Kichenok 6-1, 6-2.

Also on Thursday, third-seeded and defending champion Karolina Pliskova will meet Chinese qualifier Duan Ying-Ying in the round of 16. The Czech Pliskova beat American Bethanie Mattek-Sands in last year's Kuala Lumpur finale.

This week's titlist will earn $43,000.
