Amalendu Chatterjee: Tax-exempt KKK

April 15, 2014

My family moved to North Carolina 27 years ago. Since our arrival here, we have heard many horror stories about the Ku Klux Klan organization. In addition, we also have heard many criminal activities committed or engaged by its members.

The April 15 news article “ N.C. supremacist arrested in shooting” validated some of those stories. Lately, the KKK’s actions are being further aided or fueled by the NRA’s gun promotion, “Good guy with a gun can kill a bad guy with a gun,” and a lack of gun control measures by the U.S. Congress. I have never seen or heard of an incident when a real good guy killed the bad guy. Unfortunately, the reverse has always been the norm.

Ironically, both organizations enjoy 501(c)(3) federal tax exempt status. Are we living in a fool’s paradise or in a virtual world where reality does not matter anymore?
