Police release composite drawing of Cary sexual assault suspect

The Town of Cary Police Department is releasing this composite of the suspect believed to have committed sexual assault on a 20-year-old woman over the weekend. He is described as a clean-shaven, light skinned black male, 6 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing 200 pounds, with short black hair and pronounced green eyes that could be contacts. At the time of the incident, he was driving a red or burgundy SUV. At about 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, police responded to the Hawthorne at the Parkway complex in Cary where a 20-year-old woman reported that a man who had been behind her in traffic followed her home, pulled up to her in the parking lot and warned her of damage to her vehicle. After thanking him she headed to her apartment, where the same man pushed her inside as she was unlocking the door and sexually assaulted her.

— Police have released a composite drawing of a man they think is responsible for the sexual assault of a woman at an apartment complex off Southeast Cary Parkway over the weekend.

Police say the incident occurred Saturday about 9 a.m. at the Hawthorne at the Parkway complex. A 20-year-old woman told police that a man who had been behind her in traffic followed her home, drove alongside her in the parking lot and warned her of damage to her vehicle, according to Cary police.

The woman told police she thanked the man and walked to her apartment. The woman said the man followed her, pushed her inside her home as she unlocked the door and sexually assaulted her.

In addition to releasing the composite drawing, police described the man as a clean-shaven, light-complexioned African American who stands about 6 feet tall and weighs about 200 pounds. He has short hair and “pronounced” green eyes that could be contact lenses. He was driving a red or burgundy sport utility vehicle at the time of the sexual assault, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about the suspect to contact the Cary Police Department at 919-469-4012 or Cary Crime Stoppers at 919-460-4636. Crime Stoppers pays up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest or indictment of those responsible for committing certain types of crimes.
