Saltwater

Oregon Inlet

Area fishing has picked up as lots of bluefin and tile fish are being caught offshore. Contact: Oregon Inlet Fishing Center 252-441-6301, www.oregon-inlet.com.

Buxton/Hatteras

Big red drums have been spotted at the point and are being caught with bunker bait, while blue fish, sea mullet and puffer fish are biting at ramp 44 and 49. Ocracoke/ Portsmouth

Cape Lookout/Bogue Inlet

Offshore fishing has been strong as wahoo, blackfin and blue marlin have been biting. Ballyhoos have worked well. Topsail Island

A good number of sea mullet are popping up near the pier and can be lured with shrimp bait. Red drum is being found in the inlet, while wahoo and blackfin are showing in good numbers in the gulfstream and are being caught with ballyhoos Contact: East Coast Discount Tackle 910-328-1887, www.eastcoastsports.com.

Wilmington/ Wrightsville Beach

Red drum fishing has been steady inshore, with soft plastics being a popular choice of bait. There have been some king mackerel sightings in the ocean, while blackfin and wahoo are flowing through the gulfstream. Contact: Tex’s Tackle 910-791-1763, www.texstackle.com.

Southport/Sunset Beach

Freshwater

Falls Lake

Bass are in their first wave of spawning and are being caught with spinner bait, while crappie can be hooked anywhere from 0-10 feet down. Water level: normal 251.5, Wednesday 252.37, full pool 264.8. Contact: Outhouse Tackle 919-217-0085; www.wmi.org.

Jordan Lake

Crappie fishing has been strong at a variety of depths, with minnows being a popular choice for bait. Water level: normal 216, Wednesday 216.57, full pool 240. Contact: Wilsonville General Store 919-362-7101; Crosswinds Marina 919-362-5391.

Kerr Lake

Bass and crappie can be located in shallow water and are being nabbed with sea traps, hard bait and spinner bait. Water level: normal 300, Wednesday 301.85, full pool 320. Contact: Bobcat’s Bait & Tackle 434-374-8381; www.kerrlake.com.

Lake Wheeler
