Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - St. Louis pitcher Adam Wainwright tossed seven scoreless innings before leaving Tuesday's 3-0 win over the New York Mets with a hyperextended right knee.
Wainwright (4-1) was at 79 pitches when he stumbled awkwardly while trying to field a chopper on a play that ended the seventh inning. He gave up just four hits and struck out three.
The right-hander was coming off a two-hit shutout last Thursday in an 8-0 win at Washington.
Jon Jay went 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Cardinals, who improved to 5-4 on an 11-game road trip. Matt Holliday went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.
Dillon Gee (1-1) allowed two runs on six hits over six innings for the Mets, who fell to 2-3 on a 10-game homestand. He had four strikeouts and two walks.
