John Schlichenmaier: Police Moore Square

April 22, 2014

Regarding the April 16 news article “ Council debates priorities for Raleigh parks”: The misguided plan to build an important hamburger stand and sidewalk system in Moore Square is a big problem for tree lovers. Most of the majestic trees in that park will be dead in five years if the plan goes forward. Really!

To transform the park, assign a police officer or two to walk the beat and bust the brown bag drinkers and the dope dealers and other antisocial behaviorists. Minus those issues it will then attract families to feed the pigeons and enjoy the majestic canopy.

Killing the trees and building a hamburger stand are not going to fix anything.
