Wind forces street shutdown near L Building in downtown Raleigh

From staff reportsApril 25, 2014

— Police have closed a block of Davie Street downtown as a precaution against potential high winds at the construction site of The L Building.

As thunderstorms threatened to bring winds up to 60 mph, crews shut down lanes around the new construction that wraps around a parking deck on South McDowell Street. One of the three lanes of South McDowell were also closed.

An employee of Balfour Beatty Construction said that he was told the lanes were blocked in case winds knocked loose temporary plywood attached to the building. He refused to give his name.
