Raleigh man charged with murder in shooting death

From staff reportsApril 28, 2014

— Jerome Harris, 37, of Raleigh was due in court Monday following his arrest on a murder charge in the shooting death of a man in a Hargrove Road apartment last week.

Harris was arrested at midday Friday when police found him in the 1900 block of Summerdale Drive, police spokesman Jim Sughrue said.

An arrest warrant charged that Harris killed Corey Lamont Jackson, 35, who had been shot when neighbors called police and Emergency Medical Services to his apartment at 4549 Hargrove Road just before 5 p.m. Thursday.

Medical crews took Jackson to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, but he died there.

Police said their investigation was continuing, but they had established that Jackson and Harris knew each other before the shooting and apparently had some sort of dispute.

When Harris was arrested, he gave booking officers an address of 7325 Bryan Akins Way, but no street with that name is appears in Wake County or U.S. Postal Service ZIP code databases. Homicide detectives had no permanent address for him when they swore out the arrest warrant.

Harris was being held without bail, which is standard in murder cases.
