RALEIGH — Police have charged two people with promoting prostitution – a man for encouraging a mentally disabled person and a woman for advertising a minor on a website.
Friday night, police charged Briana Charmaine Barbour, 21, with promoting prostitution of a minor. An arrest warrant said she had advertised the minor, whose age was not given, on a website considered a site for carrying postings for prostitutes.
Police said it had been going on from April 9 through Friday. They charged her after questioning at detective headquarters, a report indicates.
She gave her address as 146 Hawthorn Drive in Clayton when she was booked. She was being held on $250,000 bail.
Saturday afternoon, police arrested Eric Nevelle Riddick, 29, of 424 Massengill Farm Road in Benson was arrested Saturday afternoon at an apartment complex on Burgundy Street in Raleigh, records showed.
Police said the case involved a 25-year-old mentally disabled woman whose family learned she had gone out of town, and they could not contact her. They contacted police after finding an online advertisement for prostitution that they believed was about her, police spokesman Jim Sughrue said.
A magistrate set Riddick’s bail at $500,000 and noted that he has a pending case for promoting prostitution of a minor along with charges that year for assault with a deadly weapon.
Barbour and Riddick were both due in court on Monday.
