RALEIGH — A Raleigh woman may have proved, illegally, just how bad the odds of winning the lottery can be.
Alexa Jo Gilmore of Stone Cellar Road is accused of taking $9,667 worth of state lottery tickets from the Kangaroo Express where she worked, according to an arrest warrant. Investigators suspect she took the tickets between Dec. 16 and March 14.
In all, shes accused of taking $2,616 of illegal winnings from the lottery, the arrest warrant states. That works out to about $1 in winnings for every $4 of lottery tickets, assuming the suspect redeemed all of the tickets she is accused of taking.
Gilmore, 22, is described as an employee of the Kangaroo Express at 4330 Louisburg Road. She faces a felony charge of embezzlement and a felony charge of obtaining property by false pretense, related to the apparent redemption of the winning tickets.
Raleigh police officers arrested Gilmore on Wednesday afternoon at the Wake County Detention Center. An investigator at the N.C. Education Lottery was listed as a witness on the arrest warrant.
