D-backs' Owings named NL Rookie of the Month

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Chris Owings has been voted the National League Rookie of the Month for April.

Owings led NL rookies batting .313, with 26 hits and five doubles to claim his first monthly award. The 22-year-old also swiped four bases and tallied seven multi-hit games during the month.

Other rookies considered for the honor included Atlanta pitcher David Hale, Colorado pitcher Tommy Kahnle, Cincinnati outfielder Billy Hamilton and Pittsburgh catcher Tony Sanchez.
