Indians place Giambi on DL, Gomes returns

Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Cleveland Indians have placed designated hitter Jason Giambi on the 15-day disabled list with a right calf strain.

The move clears a spot for catcher Yan Gomes' return from the paternity list.

Giambi started the season on the DL with a broken rib. The 43-year-old is 0- for-10 with two strikeouts in four games this year.

Gomes left the club after his wife, Jenna, gave birth to the couple's first child. The 26-year-old Brazilian is hitting .261 with three homers and 10 RBI in 26 games.
