Wake County Board of Commissioners: Bryan defeats Puryear in Republican primary

    R-Fred L. Puryear →  23.04%

— Incumbent Joe Bryan won the Republican primary for the District 1 seat on the Wake County Board of Commissioners.

He defeated challenger Fred L. Puryear 27,220 votes to 8,148 in an unofficial count with all 208 precincts in.

Bryan, a financial adviser at Wells Fargo, has served on the board since 2002. Puryear, a city of Wilson firefighter, is new to politics. Both are from Knightdale.

While Puryear raised little money and attended few political events,having a challenger forced Bryan to begin campaigning months early.

Bryan will face Democrat Sig Hutchinson in the fall.
