Police identify woman found dead on Durham trail

— Investigators have identified a woman found dead on the Rocky Creek Trail south of downtown Durham on Wednesday morning, who was the victim of a homicide.

The victim has been identified as Shontina Nakeisha Williams, 37, of Durham.

Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who saw the victim on Tuesday, May 6, or during the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 7.

A passerby found Williams about 6:25 a.m. while walking along the recreational trail, a few blocks north of Elmira Avenue, not far from Shepard Middle School, said police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.

Rocky Creek Trail runs east from the American Tobacco Trail and goes past Elmira Park and crosses Elmira Avenue before passing south of the middle school and ending near N.C. 55.
