John Lehner: Earn grades

May 7, 2014

Regarding the May 5 news article “ Schools to discuss policy on zeros”: It is fitting that the proposal to eliminate zero grades be added to the entitlements in existence today.

Heaven forbid that we should have to earn something that we could easily get for doing absolutely nothing. Let’s not teach the value of earning something in the public schools – there’s plenty of time to teach that later – for example, making biscuits at 4 a.m. at McDonald’s or going into sales (of drugs for the nonachievers).

There never seems to be a shortage of bad ideas that try to water down the three Rs.
