A seventh-grade teacher was removed from her class at Whitewater Middle School after she threatened her students, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials said Thursday.

Spokesman Brian Hacker declined to provide details about the “verbal threat” or the circumstances surrounding it. The incident happened Thursday morning. When Principal Valarie Williams learned of the comment, she removed the teacher and reported the incident to human resources. CMS police are investigating.

“At no time were any students injured or at risk of harm. I am taking this matter seriously because keeping a safe learning environment is my number one priority,” Williams said in a statement sent to parents.
