— A Cary woman has been accused of taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from the pediatrics office where she worked.

Lori Wilkinson Pote, 50, of 100 Franklin Chase Court in Cary, was jailed Thursday, charged with seven counts of felony embezzlement, according to arrest warrants filed at the Wake County Magistrate’s Office. Superior Court Judge Donald W. Stephens set bail at $2.7 million.

Financial forensic investigators think the crimes began Jan. 1, 2007 and ended Dec. 31, 2013.

Raleigh police detectives have accused Pote of embezzling more than $100,000 each year she was employed by Carolina Kids Pediatrics Associates at 2605 Blue Ridge Road in Raleigh, court records show.

The Raleigh Police Department’s financial crimes unit launched an investigation in February after officials at the pediatrics center noticed a number of financial irregularities, said Jim Sughrue, a police spokesman.
