Rich Moore: Miracle man

May 9, 2014

In the Catholic Church, a pope must perform two miracles to be considered for sainthood. Our own “Pope,” State Budget Director Art Pope, has accomplished this feat in less than two years.

First, there was the 2013 North Carolina “economic miracle” where the unemployment rate plummeted even though job growth was stagnant and with credit given to tax reductions that did not go into effect until 2014.

Now, he has “miraculously” found hundreds of millions of dollars in the state budget to provide raises for teachers and state employees, effectively neutralizing their political opposition.

Well played, Saint Arthur, well played.
