Height: 6-0. Weight: 204 pounds.
College: North Carolina.
What he offers: Despite his smallish size, Boston led the Tar Heels with 85 tackles and four interceptions last season. Boston is a good tackler, finishing with a season-high 15 stops against Duke. But he lacks instincts in coverage and was beaten repeatedly at UNC.
Why he fits: The Panthers already had five safeties on the roster, although Charles Godfrey is coming back from Achilles surgery and Colin Jones is a special teams player. Boston gives the Panthers a young safety to pair with veterans Thomas DeCoud and Roman Harper, who signed as free agents. Boston can play both safety spots, and might get a look at nickel corner.
Worth mentioning: Boston finished his UNC career with 12 interceptions, and was a second-team All-ACC selection in 2013.
Bet you didnt know: His full name is Jayestin Trevon Boston. ... Went to North Fort Myers High in Florida, the same school Deion Sanders attended. ... Wore No. 10 for the Tar Heels so he could say Bos-ten.
What theyre saying: Converted cornerback and free/strong safety tweener whose inconsistent play and questionable physicality will turn teams off. Will have to turn heads on special teams to have longevity as a backup. Draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki.
