Portland, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - Diego Valeri scored deep into stoppage time on Sunday to rescue a point for the Portland Timbers in a thrilling 1-1 draw with the Los Angeles Galaxy at Providence Park.
It was a wide-open game from the opening kick as both sides created several opportunities over the course of 90 minutes, but the breakthrough wouldn't come until the clock showed 90 minutes.
With five minutes added on for stoppage time, the Galaxy broke the deadlock on a long throw-in from Dan Gargan into the penalty area. The ball bounced in the box and Robbie Keane got around his mark and nodded it past Timbers goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts.
The Galaxy thought they had wrapped up all three points, but there was a twist in the tale in the fifth minute of injury time when Will Johnson found Valeri with space on the right side of the box. Valeri fired a low strike that slipped under the hands of Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo and into the bottom left corner for a thrilling equalizer.
The result sees Los Angeles improve to nine points from seven matches, while Portland improves to nine points, but has just one victory from 10 games this season.
