Fire rookie Shipp earns Player of the Week honor

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Chicago Fire rookie midfielder Harrison Shipp was named the Player of the Week on Monday for Week 10 of the 2014 Major League Soccer season.

Shipp netted his first career hat trick and recorded an assist Saturday night, helping the Fire earn their first win of the season -- a 5-4 victory against the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena.

Shipp opened the scoring in the fourth minute when he sent a right-footed shot from outside the box past Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles.

He then gave the Fire a 3-2 lead in the 53rd minute and completed his hat trick five minutes later when he disposed Red Bulls defender Kosuke Kimura, dribbled into the box and slid his third goal of the game past Robles.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from the North America Soccer Reporters (NASR). The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
