Raleigh man charged in one-day car break-in spree

— Police charged a city man late Monday with breaking into four cars, trying to break into seven others and trying to break into a home, all on Monday, according to arrest warrants.

Bernard Antonio Downing, 28, of 202 Loft Lane in Raleigh was arrested in the 200 block of North East Street, arrest records show.

He was being held on $50,000 bail after police charged him with four counts of breaking and entering involving a motor vehicle, seven counts of attempted vehicle breaking and entering, one county of attempted breaking and entering at a home in the 400 block of East Jones Street, three counts of misdemeanor larceny and two counts of injury to personal property because two of the cars had windows broken with a brick.
