Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Albert Pujols doubled and scored twice and the LA Angels of Anaheim defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 3-0, on Wednesday afternoon.
Pujols finished with two hits while Raul Ibanez, Efren Navarro, and Erick Aybar each drove in a run for the Angels, who have now won seven straight against the Phillies.
Garrett Richards (4-0) spun seven scoreless innings, giving up just five hits and no walks with eight strikeouts.
Chase Utley went 2-for-4 with two doubles to lead Philadelphia offensively. Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard and Carlos Ruiz supplied the Phillies' other three hits as the offense could not get anything going.
A.J. Burnett (2-3) allowed all three runs on seven hits with five walks across five frames for the Phillies, who dropped their third straight overall and eighth consecutive interleague game.
The Angels took an early 1-0 lead. Pujols lined a double to right with two outs in the first inning and rounded third on Ibanez's single to right.
Hank Conger and Grant Green both singled to begin the second for the Angels. Burnett recovered to fan Luis Jimenez and Richards, but Navarro hit a sharp single up the middle to plate Conger and make it a 2-0 game.
Pujols singled and Ibanez walked before Aybar's double to center field scored another. Conger then walked to load the bases with no outs, but Burnett struck out Green and got Jimenez to ground into a double play to end the threat.
Mike Trout, who was greeted with cheers from the Philadelphia crowd for a second straight game, tripled on a fly ball off the right-field wall to start the Angels' seventh. After Mike Adams struck out the next two hitters, Aybar got aboard on a walk and stole second, but Conger popped up to leave the runners stranded.
Ruiz got aboard on a single with one out in the home half of the seventh. He then advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on Cody Asche's groundout, but pinch-hitter Reid Brignac struck out as Richards escaped unscathed.
