Campbell University plans engineering degree

From staff reportsMay 14, 2014

— Campbell University plans to offer a bachelor of science in engineering degree at its main campus in Harnett County.

Campbell’s new program, with a planned debut in fall 2016, will focus on “sustainability, design and systems analysis,” according to the school. The university may later add specific fields of study for would-be engineers, such as bio-processing and biomedical engineering.

First, though, the school needs the approval of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. With that approval, the school hopes to accept 50 students to the engineering program in its first year, adding 60 more the next year and 104 the year after that, eventually growing to a total enrollment of 220 students.

Campbell also will seek accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology once the first class of engineering majors has graduated.
