Same bridge, new victim: Stuck truck closes Peace Street in Raleigh

From staff reportsMay 15, 2014

— The railroad bridge over West Peace Street between North West Street and Glenwood Avenue claimed another tractor-trailer Thursday morning as a driver tried to slip his rig through the space beneath and wedged the trailer against the structure.

Police spokesman Jim Sughrue said the accident closed both eastbound lanes of Peace Street and one of two westbound lanes, but drivers were advised to simply avoid the area.

The accident happened shortly before 9 a.m.

Sughrue said it was unclear how long it would take to work the truck free.

The bridge was not believed to have been damaged, police said.

Norfolk Southern rail officials were on the scene inspecting it.
