Search for man who fell from boat on Jordan Lake continues Friday

From staff reportsMay 15, 2014

— Search teams will go out for a third day on Friday to search for a man who fell from a moving motorboat into Jordan Lake near Farrington Point on Wednesday.

The man, believed to be 81 years old, fell from the boat during a fishing trip with two other people at about 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to Deputy Chief Mark Riggsbee of the North Chatham Volunteer Fire Department.

Crews from several departments, including sonar-equipped boats and divers, canvassed the lake from 7:30 a.m. Thursday until heavy rains forced an early end to operations at about noon. The searchers also brought out the man who was driving the fishing boat and retraced the path he took on Wednesday morning.

“It’s a body recovery at this point,” Riggsbee said. “We’re continuing to look, hard as we can.”

The name of the man had not been made public as of Thursday evening.
