Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski took a 40 percent pay cut in 2012 – but he still made more than $6 million.

According to USA Today, Krzyzewski’s total compensation for the 2012 calendar year, the most recent year for which data are available, was $6,043,979. The decline from 2011 – when he was fresh off a national championship and became the winningest coach in men’s Division-I basketball – was due to a reduction in bonus pay. Krzyzewski’s total compensation in 2011 was $9,682,032.

In 2012, Krzyzewski made just under $2 million in base pay, comparable to what he made in previous years. Just over $2 million more came from bonus pay (down from more than $3.7 million in 2011) and another $2 million ($1,982,757) came in the form of deferred compensation – money he earned but will be paid later.
