I served in the Peace Corps in Kenya in the mid-1990s – before the Internet, cell phones and digital cameras. I traveled to Zimbabwe, and fell in love with Mosi-oa-Tunya, aka Victoria Falls. I had a friend take a photo of me sitting on the edge, feet dangling. Someday, I mourned in my heart, sitting in this spot would be impossible; the area would be cordoned off as unsafe for the public.
Weeks later in Zimbabwe’s capital city Harare, I bought several tourism posters at 50 cents a piece, mailing them home to Kenya. Voilà, I found out after getting the photos printed later that, unbeknownst to me, one matched the poster almost perfectly! They reside together, the poster and my humble photo, in our dining room.
