Car fire in downtown Raleigh causes major Capital Boulevard backup

— Police asked drivers to avoid southbound Capital Boulevard on Friday morning because a car fire at North Dawson and West Lane streets blocked traffic and caused a major backup.

The fire happened shortly after 8 a.m., and traffic remained backed up past the Wade Avenue interchange shortly before 9 a.m., police said.
