Pat Hawkins: Let business owners show creativity

May 16, 2014

Regarding the May 12 news article “ Council divided over sign rules”: Our City Council members should remember that this is Raleigh and not the bland and homogenized Cary. The recent debate over signage and window displays is disingenuous at best.

We want a vibrant downtown that brings people there to shop, eat and enjoy. This requires a collection of imaginative, colorful and innovative store windows, among other things. I say the funkier the better.

Our leaders have enough important issues with which to deal. Let our small-business owners use their imaginations to draw a diverse crowd (which, incidentally, brings tax money).
