Garrett, left, and Geoffrey Gerdau earned Venture Scouting's Ranger Award.

Garrett and Geoffrey Gerdau, both Eagle Scouts in Troop 9 and officers in Venture Crew 9, earned Venture Scouting’s Ranger Award, akin to the Eagle rank in terms of skill mastery.

Fewer than a dozen Boy Scouts in the Occoneechee Council have earned the award.

Garrett and Geoffrey also each received Venture Scouting’s Silver Award, considered the top Venture Scouting rank.

In addition, Garrett and Geoffrey earned a sixth Eagle Palm for continued service to Troop 9 and Scouting after becoming Eagle Scouts in 2012. The award recognizes that Garrett and Geoffrey each earned an additional 30 merit badges beyond the 21 required to achieve the Eagle rank.

“We learned about leadership while advancing through the ranks,” Garrett said. “Now we can teach others inside and outside of Scouting a great many skills required to take care of yourself and enjoy the outdoors.”

Garrett and Geoffrey are sophomores at East Chapel Hill High School.
