SunTrust bank promotes two local executives

SunTrust Bank has promoted the head of its central Carolina region and the market president for Raleigh and Wake County to new roles.

David Stevens, formerly president and CEO of SunTrust’s central Carolina region, has been named president for the newly created Carolinas division.

Chris Bell, who formerly headed the Raleigh and Wake County markets, has been named president of the bank’s Triangle East region.

Stevens will oversee five regions in North and South Carolina. Previously based in Durham, his office will be based in Greensboro.

Stevens joined SunTrust in 2010 after 29 years at Wells Fargo. He currently sits on the boards of the N.C. Chamber and the N.C. Bankers Association and previously was on the board of the Research Triangle Regional Partnership.

Stevens is a native of Fayetteville and received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Elon University.

Bell, who joined SunTrust in 2010 after 22 years in the banking industry, has served on the boards of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and the Wake Education Partnership, which he chaired in 2012-2013. He has a bachelor’s degree in business management from Elon University.

Atlanta-based SunTrust ranks second in the number of branches in the Triangle with 57, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
