Raleigh police say man took $50,000 in home-repair frauds

— Police have accused a Rocky Mount man of taking more than $50,000 from two women, aged 64 and 73, in an apparent case of home-repair fraud.

The Raleigh Police Department suspects Terry Joseph Childers, 34, received nearly $46,000 from one woman and nearly $5,000 from the other for repair work “that was either not performed or performed to a substandard level,” according to arrest warrants filed Wednesday.

Police believe Childers committed the suspected home-repair fraud between January and August of 2013, according to the warrants. Childers faces two felony charges of exploiting the trust of a disabled or elderly person and two felony charges of obtaining property by false pretense, according to county records.

Childers was held Wednesday at the Wake County Detention Center on $102,500 bond, county records state.
