Driver in Durham car crash fatally shot

— Police were investigating a homicide late Sunday afternoon after a vehicle crashed into an house on the 2700 block of Holloway Street near South Adams Street, and the driver was discovered to have been shot.

When officers arrived on the scene at at 4:24 p.m., they found a vehicle occupied by four males that had crashed into an unoccupied house.

The driver, Juan Carlos Ruiz, 27, of Durham, was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound.

Three other adult male occupants of the vehicle were injured and taken to a hospital for treatment. Their conditions were not immediately available.

Based on a preliminary investigation, it appears shots were fired from another vehicle into the victims’ vehicle.
