Raleigh police make arrest in Capital Boulevard murder

— Police arrested a man Monday in connection with a fatal weekend shooting that caused a car crash on Capital Boulevard.

Rashand Nicholas Fitts, 30, turned himself in Monday to be booked into the Wake County jail on charges of murdering Travis Donovan Rhodes, according to police spokesman Jim Sughrue.

According to a police statement, Rhodes was driving northbound on the 3400 block of Capital Boulevard when his car veered left, crossed the median and came to rest on the west side of the road just before midnight Saturday.

Rhodes, 24, was taken to WakeMed, where he later died and it was discovered he had been shot in the torso.

The investigation of the case remains ongoing.
