Teenager reports sexual assault on Wake Forest greenway

— A teenager told police that he was sexually assaulted along a greenway Monday in Wake Forest, according to police.

The 14-year-old said that he was walking along Sanford Creek Greenway when he was approached by a man, the Wake Forest Police Department said. Following a short conversation, the man reportedly forced the boy into the woods and sexually assaulted him.

The teen described the suspect as a white man in his teens or early 20s with patchy facial hair, standing between 6 feet and 6 feet 4 inches tall, weighing 160 to 170 pounds. He reportedly was wearing a black long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans and light-colored tennis shoes, according to police.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to call the Wake Forest Police Department Tip Line at 919-435-9610. Calls are confidential, according to the department,

The town is urging greenway users to stay with at least one other person; to watch their surroundings; to carry a phone; not to stop for strangers; to keep friends and family aware of their whereabouts; and to fight back loudly in the event of an attack.
