Free self-defense class for women in Raleigh

Jason Culbreth, jiujitsu instructor and owner of Forged Fitness in Raleigh, doesn’t want women to wait until after they’ve been in a scary situation to learn how to defend themselves.

That’s why Culbreth and John Telford, who teaches mixed martial arts and jiujitsu, are pushing women to be more proactive by hosting a free self-defense workshop this week.

The 75-minute workshop takes place Friday at 6 p.m. at Forged Fitness (2609 Discovery Drive, Raleigh) and is open to women of all ages.

Culbreth and Telford will cover five topics: how to interpret your surroundings, how your posture can make you a target, three common mistakes to avoid, 10 simple self-defense techniques, and the No. 1 thing to do in a self-defense situation.
