Frank Shields: Tenure’s worth

June 3, 2014

If, as your May 30 editorial “ The pay game” indicated, teacher tenure is basically an insignificant benefit that “is nothing more than that, after a few years they are entitled to a hearing before they’re fired,” why not give up a “benefit” that is “nothing more than” for an 11 percent pay raise? Seems like a good deal to me.

If, to some teachers, the “nothing more than” is worth more than an 11 percent pay increase, they can, under the Senate proposal, keep their “nothing more than” benefit.
