RALEIGH — Police have charged a man from Oxford with being the getaway driver for a murder suspect after a man was found shot to death in a crashed car May 24.
Archie Lee Huff Jr., 34, surrendered to authorities Tuesday night at the Wake County Detention Center and was jailed on a charge of being an accessory after the fact in a felony.
Police said Huff drove Rashand Nicholas Fitts, who is charged with murder in the death of Travis Rhodes, 24.
Police found Rhodes shot and behind the wheel of a 2014 Ford in the 3400 block of Capital Boulevard after the Ford crashed into another car, ran across the median and the opposite lanes and stopped in a grassy area. shortly before midnight.
Rhodes had been shot in the torso, police said.
Fitts, 30, turned himself in to police two days later.
When police drew up their arrest warrant for Huff, they listed an address on Edgetone Drive in Raleigh, but he was booked with an address of 6527 N.C. Hwy. 96 in Oxford.
Magistrates set his bail at $500,000, and he was being held for a court appearance Wednesday.
